Salmon Run

The salmon is running in the Yakima River. We went out on the evening of the 18th and saw
several of them and about 4 beds. It was fun to watch the male be protective of the female and its bed. Some of them were about 30 or more inches long. How I would love to catch one. It was a sight to see. Nature at its best. And we are living in it.

This is a real good picture of the salmon bed. The rocks are cleared of all of the sand. The salmon are very protective of their beds. We saw one male take at bite another female in the middle and push her right out of the bed. The males were real dark in color and the female as shown in the left is a lighter color. I don't know exactly what type of salmon this is, but we counted about 20 in this area before it got too dark. The spawning is just beginning.
